Ethiopian Military Plane crashed in Mogadishu, Killing at least 4

Aug 9 (Reuters) - A military plane that crash-landed in the Somali capital of Mogadishu on Friday belonged to Ethiopia and was carrying ammunition, two security sources said. "It was an Ethiopian cargo plane with ammunition on board," said one security source, on condition of anonymity. At least one of the five crew members had died, he said.
Ethiopian soldiers are supporting the Somali government's fight against Islamist al Shabaab rebels, although they are not part of the African Union peacekeeping mission. (Reporting by Richard Lough; Editing by Mike Collett-White)

Mogadishu, Somalia (CNN) -- An Ethiopian military cargo plane crashed at an airport in the Somali capital of Mogadishu early Friday, killing four crew members, African Union peacekeepers said.

The plane "burst into flames immediately on crashing" at the international airport, according to the African Union Mission to Somalia.

It was carrying arms to the African Union forces in Somalia when it crashed as it landed just before 8 a.m. local time, airport staff said.

AMISOM expressed condolences to the government and people of Ethiopia.

Established in 2007, the peacekeeping force has more than 17,000 personnel from across Africa helping the Somali government battle Islamist militants in the nation.

Backed by the United Nations, its role is to help maintain peace and support Somalia's federal government, as the African nation struggles to emerge from more than two decades of conflict.

Ethiopian Airlines Boeing Dreamliner 787 fire

Flights have resumed at London's Heathrow Airport after a fire on a parked Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet.

All runways were closed for nearly 90 minutes after the fire at 16:30 BST. No passengers were aboard the plane at the time, a Heathrow spokesman said.
Fifty Dreamliners worldwide were grounded in January after malfunctions with the plane's lithium-ion batteries.

Boeing modified the jets with new batteries and flights resumed in April.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch of the Department for Transport has dispatched a team to the scene.
The Ethiopian Airlines Dreamliner in the Heathrow incident - named the Queen of Sheba - flew from Addis Ababa to Nairobi on the first commercial flight since the grounding.

Pictures of the Heathrow fire showed the Queen of Sheba close to a building and surrounded by fire vehicles. London Fire Brigade said its crews assisted Heathrow staff.

Fire-retardant foam appeared to have been sprayed at the airliner, and an area in front of the tail area on the fuselage appeared to be scorched.

Ethiopian Airlines said smoke was detected from the aircraft after it had been parked at Heathrow for more than eight hours.

Ayat Real Estate CEO Ayalew sentenced to 12 years, Ayat S.C to pay 90 mln birr

The Eighth Criminal Bench of the Federal High Court, Lideta Division, on May 22, passed a 12-year sentence against Ayalew Tessema founder and CEO of Ayat S.C. and a 90-million birr fine against the company.

Apart from that, construction machinery worth some 86 million birr was ordered to be confiscated.

It can be recalled that prosecutors of the Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority (ERCA) requested court to hand down a 3-billion-birr fine against Ayat S.C. and a 79-year jail term and a 2.7-million-birr fine Ayalew, who were found guilty of multiple counts of crime by the court on March 11.

According to the federal court's decision, the share company has been fined 90,091,270 birr while Ayalew will pay 3,235,543.50 birr in fine.

In a submission on sentencing dated April 17, the prosecutors asked the court that the share company pay over 3 billion birr in fine for violating a raft of banking and monetary legislations, the Value Added Tax, Income Tax and Customs proclamations as well as the Criminal Code.

Ayat was found guilty on 8 counts.
